Below are some beautiful words from some of this year’s awardees!
Robin Williams, Massachusetts Sanitarian of the Year Award Recipient
To say that I’m delighted and honored to receive the sanitarian of the year award from MEHA would be an understatement. I am sincerely grateful for the recognition from my comrades-in-arms, my mentors, colleagues, and friends. To join past recipients who I have respected and admired throughout my career is deeply appreciated and humbling.
Receiving this award would not have been possible without the support and inspiration I received from the Framingham Public Health Team, for whom I have the deepest respect and appreciation for. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You make those dreaded work days easier and fun. Last but not least, thank you to the MEHA award committee and the executive board. I would not be writing this thank you note if it weren’t for your encouragement, guidance, professionalism, and motivation.
Steven Hughes, Joseph J. Walsh, Jr. Mentorship Award Co-Recipient
There is NO better award than one determined by your peers, for they hold you to their expectations, as well as your own! It is an absolute honor and privilege to be selected for this year’s Jay Walsh Award and quite humbling to know that I will share this prestigious award with a group of past recipients that are SECOND TO NONE. We are all familiar with the adage about the value and benefit of “teaching” a man to fish vs “giving” him a fish …. When we share our experience, knowledge, and wisdom we expand beyond the strength of one individual to build the foundation of an entire TEAM! I am very proud to be a part of this effort in MA and even prouder to be a part of this TEAM.
Susan Sawyer, Dr. Joseph S. Goldfarb Award Recipient
I would like to thank the MEHA board and our fantastic members for the recognition of my contribution to public health. It is an honor. I have had the privilege of working with wonderful professionals who are always supportive and we have had some good times together.
Pamela Ross Kung, President’s Award Recipient
I am deeply honored, and grateful to be selected as the recipient of this year’s President’s Award, taking my place alongside other dedicated professionals that have come before me. I want to give a special thank you to Diane for choosing me, since this was her decision to make. I also want to thank the MEHA board for supporting that choice. To be recognized in such a way, for doing the type of work that I love, and sharing my passion for that work with others, is amazing. I am proud to be a member of MEHA, an organization whose primary goal is to provide quality training and educational programs to professionals in the field of Public and Environmental Health. I look forward to more opportunities to collaborate with members of the MEHA team, and to mentor new arrivals to the field of public health.
