The Town of Milford is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time Health Inspector.
Reporting directly to the Health Director, this position is responsible for enforcing state and local public regulations related to a variety of public and environmental health-related issues, including but not limited to food safety, tobacco control and prevention, mosquito and pest control, waste management, septic systems, and housing.
The Health Inspector keeps detailed accounts of inspections in accordance with local and state regulations and therefore must maintain accurate attention to detail in all aspects of work. The Health Inspector should be self-motivated, creative, flexible, and able to adapt to and balance multiple priorities.
The Health Inspector routinely performs technical inspection work and participates in emergency planning and response in unexpected situations. In all scenarios, the Health Inspector is expected to clearly and comprehensively communicate with co-workers, professionals in various industries, and members of the public.
At times, the Health Inspector must mediate between groups and/or individuals who have conflicting opinions or objectives, diverse points of view or differences. Excellent communication skills are needed to convey health regulations, skillfully negotiate, achieve compromise, secure support, concurrence and acceptance or compliance. Relationship building is a large part of this role.
The Health Inspector may be asked to complete other duties to improve and maintain the public’s health and protect natural resources.
Priority will be given to candidates who are multi-lingual.
