SUMMARY:Webinar: Battery Energy Storage Systems Permitting and Safety
DESCRIPTION:Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are a relatively new form of electrical infrastructure that help utilities store energy during periods of low demand\, and use it when we need it most. These batteries also pose fire safety and chemical contamination risks\, which can be concerning for communities that are considering hosting these projects. \nThis 90-minute webinar will review the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources’ (DOER) new permitting process and model regulations for BESS projects\, and share ways that cities and towns can make sure new clean energy infrastructure projects are safe in their communities. Featuring presentations by Rick Collins\, Director of the DOER Division of Clean Energy Siting and Permitting\, and Jennifer Hoyt\, a Senior Technical Advisor with Code Red Consultants. \nDo you have questions for the DOER or Code Red Consultants? Submit them to admin@maeha.org. \nAdditional resources: \nDOER New Permitting Guidelines \nDOER Model BESS Regulations \nNational Fire Protection Association (NFPA) BESS Guidelines
